The feedstock I use to make our compost consists of horse manure, wood shavings, grass & alfalfa hay, steer manure, grass clippings and irrigation / pond water. I don’t add any type of chemical to the raw material or completed compost.
When I build my windrows the temperature is brought up to 130 degrees to 160 degrees for at least 15 days in a row. After the 15 days I tend to the rows as needed until they are fully cured. The time for this is typically 3 – 4 months.
